It has been reported in various media outlets that up to 40 current and former Israel Defence Forces (IDF) soldiers and associates are reportedly travelling to Australia to participate in the TCS Sydney Marathon on Sunday, 30 August 2026.

In light of other major sporting events in the world being disrupted by protestors due to Israel’s participation, what measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of the majority of the runners who have nothing to do with them? Everyone has spent months training and it would be  very sad if the race is disrupted due to this.

    To the organisers of the Sydney Marathon I am deeply disturbed & upset upon learning that active IDF Soldiers are participating in this weekends marathon. (See below)

    To allow runners who may have participated in what is widely acknowledged as a genocide in Gaza, along with recent infractions in the illegally occupied West Bank and now, extensive bombing in South Lebanon which has seen many Australian Palestinians lose their family homes.

    For IDF soldiers to run under a banner of “peace” is disingenuous to say the least. I am appalled that a neutral event such as a marathon will be used by the Israeli Zionist Media as propaganda. By allowing this to happen, the organising committee is not neutral, it is complicit in its support of the occupation army of Israel.

    We refuse entry to a pro Palestinian comedian, and allow ex IDF soldiers to run here in a marathon? this is unacceptable!!

    Chris Sidoti from the United Nations said we should be arresting these people for war crimes!

    Do not allow these people in, it is yet another way to normalise th genocide in Gaza.
